I wanted to thank the extraordinary nurses under your fine care in the Medical IC where my father was admitted.
Catherine Chapin is a nurse beyond any I have ever seen, navigating between medical, ethical, political and familial conflicts. She took the time to learn my children's names and to offer her support beyond the walls of the ICU.
She treated my father as though he were her own. She was sunny and on every medical detail. She came in every few minutes to check on dad who perked up every time he heard her voice. She always had the accurate and full medical answers to my questions which is why I assumed she was a doctor. She gave me the courage to stroke dad and hold his hand etc. (we had no idea what we could and couldn't do in his state).
Catherine Chapin is the sort of nurse who could change the face of American medicine. She offered me books to read and warned me of what might happen at every juncture without alarming me. She did it calmly and with affection.
Nurses really are the front soldiers in battle and I am extraordinarily grateful we had them on our side.
You have trained an excellent team, we are so grateful.
