This nomination of Catherine Hutchins was submitted by a colleague in the Oncology Center.
A patient arrived to see her oncologist after being operated on for bladder cancer. While caring for her, Cathy detected a strong odor of urine. Apparently the ostomy bags the patient had received were not the appropriate size and did not fit properly. The patient had a towel around the bag in hopes of trapping and containing the leak. Her clothes were not dry, but she refused any other adaptive appliance. When contacted for support Cathy insured that the appropriate adaptive equipment would be waiting for the patient upon arrival home. Education and support was rendered to this patient. At the time of this writing we are pleased to say that because of Cathy's swift response the patient is doing very well and leading an active life with her family and friends. Cathy exemplifies the characteristics of a DAISY Nurse.
