From the time I walked in that door, Catie Lane did nothing but show compassion and empathy. She asked about my concerns and wishes as well as if I had any viewpoints she needed to know about. Little did I know she actually listened. Everything I expressed to her she followed and didn't have to ask questions again. I also expressed that I did not want any medicine for pain and not once did she try to push any medicine on me including at the worst it could be.
Catie was always in my room checking on me; not once did I ever have to hit the nurse button. She held my hand during pushing knowing that there was a potential it could hurt her, but she didn't care, she made sure I knew she was there for me and that I could trust her to get me through the delivery. Not only did she show compassion to me but with my whole family as well! Including when my 4-year-old came to visit. With everything going on and the new addition to my family when my 4-year-old came to visit she put her in the spotlight for a minute letting her feel special as well while everyone else was enjoying the baby including on getting her whatever drink she wanted and all the crackers she wanted as well.
Catie had nothing but positivity. From her body language to the tone in her voice it showed us that she was a kind- and open-hearted nurse. She always had a smile on her face no matter how annoying I may have been. She always made eye contact when communicating with me. She spoke with positive affirmation as well as honesty and providing me with nothing but support. She showed interest and took time out to socialize with me and everyone in the room. She showed us that she's here to work but also made me feel like she was interested in getting to know me as well which made me more relaxed and at ease. She not only made sure I was taken care of, but she also asked my family needed anything as well every single time.
When I demanded medicine, even though it was almost time to deliver, Catie didn't ask any questions. As both doctors were in another room, somehow Catie worked her magic and I didn't even have to wait all but 5 minutes before they were in there giving me my medicine. She was on top of everything. She knows and does her job well including being an advocate for her patients. When a doctor was needed but was busy she got the next best person who was certified for checking me to see how far I progressed. I didn't have to wait for anything. None the less, while Catie was taking care of me she also managed to get the room fully prepared with every material needed to make the delivery successful and there was not one thing she missed she got it all.
Just when I tried to give up mid-delivery when it was most important that I didn't, Catie was right there holding my hand hugging me and telling me that I could do it. All the positivity and encouragement she spoke gave me the energy I needed to finish the delivery. She told me the progress I was making and on where the baby was at and when to push. Because of Catie's fast thinking and positivity on everything, I didn't end up putting stress on the baby and everything ended perfectly. I was scared to go through labor again and Catie made me not scared, made me more relaxed and made me have the best delivery I think anyone could have. Because of Catie, I did it and I had a perfectly healthy baby girl to show for it.
During labor after my water broke, I requested to be in the shower and in no time Catie got me to my wishes within minutes. From turning the water to the perfect temperature, holding my cup and providing me a drink when needed, to standing in the shower with me getting soaked, talking me through every horrible contraction and coaching me to breathe. She didn't have a care in the world that she was getting soaked and was probably going to be in wet pants for some time before she could change. She made me feel like I was the only one that mattered at that time. She showed me that she was there to provide calm reassurance and the best encouragement there could have been given.
