I was able to focus and gain perspective thanks to Chandler's serene and steadfast support.
I am so thankful for Chandler, as she was with me by my side through labor, literally caught our baby during the delivery, and cared for both of us postpartum. I was not planning to be induced after my 37+ week OB appointment, and I was not mentally prepared to meet our baby earlier than expected. I was able to focus and gain perspective thanks to Chandler's serene and steadfast support. She developed rapport with me immediately upon taking over the day nurse's assignment, and I deeply appreciated how she advocated for me while serving as a liaison between the OB and me.
At 7cm dilated, the OB believed that my labor had stalled. I communicated to Chandler that the monitor didn't seem to be picking up every contraction, so Chandler stayed by my side for at least 15 minutes straight at one point to ensure that each contraction was documented, providing an accurate picture for appropriate decision making. She enthusiastically provided ideas for aides during labor, including the exercise ball, peanut ball, and squat bar. When I felt the unavoidable urge to push, Chandler was ready and didn't leave my side. She will always be remembered by my family as the first person to hold our baby, as she caught her after the last push. She exuded confidence during this situation and multitasked by instructing my husband to pull the alert cord to signal that we needed help in the room.
Her compassion and humility were evident when she patiently helped me clean up in the restroom after delivery, providing me as much dignity as possible in that exposed situation. Her unassuming and respectful manner with which she took my and my baby's vitals through the night, and the following night, was so appreciated. She took her time, and I felt that she truly cared for both of our wellbeing. It was a true blessing to have Chandler caring for us!
