This incident exemplifies Channing’s strong assessment skills, her vigilance in recognizing subtle changes in patient conditions, and her advocacy for patient safety.
It is with great pleasure that I nominate Channing Ford for a DAISY Award. Channing has consistently demonstrated compassionate and patient-centered care during her clinical days with me. Her enthusiasm for learning and dedication to her patients is truly commendable. She takes the initiative to understand her patients’ diagnoses thoroughly and is always eager to learn from her resource nurses.
Channing is highly engaged in patient care, constantly asking insightful questions and applying what she learns. I have received excellent feedback from her resource nurses, who frequently highlight her attentiveness to her patients and her ability to quickly build rapport with them. One particular instance that stood out was when Channing identified a possible allergic reaction to a blood transfusion in one of her patients. Through her commitment to hourly rounding and careful monitoring, she promptly noticed redness and a rash developing on the patient’s face, neck, and chest—changes that were not present during her initial assessment. The patient remained hemodynamically stable. This incident exemplifies Channing’s strong assessment skills, her vigilance in recognizing subtle changes in patient conditions, and her advocacy for patient safety. Acting quickly, Channing ensured the patient was stable and immediately notified her resource nurse. Thanks to her swift action, the doctor was alerted, and the patient was closely monitored for any signs of an anaphylactic reaction. Fortunately, the rash resolved after a few hours, and Channing’s dedication to her patients and her desire to always prioritize their well-being give me great confidence that she will become an extraordinary nurse.
