I have worked with Charlene at UCC for the last 2 years. There are many stories that I could share on why I believe Charlene is a DAISY Nurse, but I have chosen two. She is truly an advocate for the patients at UCC. She works effectively with the team to ensure that all needs are met. I can't say enough good things about her; she is an amazing nurse and leader and works well with L at UCC. Last week, the DH team met with Mr. B for his birthday. Mr. B wanted his family, who were arriving from out of the state, to meet Charlene. Mr. B had such a great time and told us that he thought he was going to live another year to see his next birthday. Charlene coordinated this birthday event, and it made a big difference for him.

A few months ago, we had a very difficult situation with Mr. S. His girlfriend had fallen in her home and was on the floor for 3 days. Mr. S's son went by to check on her and called 911. She was hospitalized and was in a rehab facility for about a month. Our patient improved dramatically. He ate better, was more engaging, and his posture improved. I saw Charlene take him under her wing and support his improvement. When he began his decline, his girlfriend arrived, and it impacted his anxiety as he was transitioning. After speaking with the girlfriend, Charlene asked her to sit in the main area. Charlene sat at the bedside, and the entire team was there to provide support and a calm environment for Mr. S. The biggest gift that was provided is that his son, C, was able to see his father calm as he was actively dying. Charlene is an amazing RNCM, and while we have many outstanding nurses, Charlene goes above and beyond with our UCC patients. It is an honor to walk beside her.
