He immediately said, “I’ll take care of it right now,” and sprung into action! Changing my mother, her bedding, and sanitizing her mattress in a flash!
Let me start by saying that every member of the team that came in and administered care for my mother during the time I was here at Good Sam Hospital because other family members and I would switch off sitting with my mother to comfort her through her health situation, were all EXTREMELY CARING and demonstrated, in my humble opinion, complete competence in their respective roles.
However, one morning, Mr. Cox, exhibited a level of compassion that truly touched me. He had already made his last “pass,” and was at the end of his shift, when my mother “soiled” herself. Rather than “pass the buck” to the oncoming RN who was just minutes from taking over, when I caught his attention in the hall and let him know and asked if he could let his relief know, he immediately said, “I’ll take care of it right now,” and sprung into action! Changing my mother, her bedding, and sanitizing her mattress in a flash! And while this may very well be the “expectation” from an administrative standpoint, I have seen “buck passing” before in other facilities, and for me to be made to feel as though this man was doing this, not just because it was his “job,” but because he treated my mother like his own, I feel was not only an example of the values of this hospital and a testament of the fine job that the people who raised him did, but deserves some recognition. So on behalf of myself and my family, thank you, MR CHARLES COX!!!!
