I am a recently diagnosed breast cancer patient. Charli Kahler guided me through the biopsy process and participated in the actual biopsy, making sure I was comfortable and as relaxed as possible throughout the entire procedure. She also spent a lot of time talking to me on the phone beforehand to help me with some anxiety issues I was having. Charli took the extra time to put me in a better place emotionally.
Where Charli helped me the most was during the radiation seeding and wiring process with mammography prior to surgery. The expected 1 ½ hour procedure ended up taking nearly 23 hours. The doctor said it was the most difficult procedure he had done in 22 years of practice. Charli was right there, supporting me physically as well as emotionally while the other four people had to contort my body into countless positions. It was a very painful and traumatic process to go through, and if it hadn't been for Charli's reassurance and comfort I really think I would have collapsed.
After the procedures were finished she wrapped me in a warm blanket and, instead of waiting for someone else to take me back to the one-day surgery floor, she took me herself. I realized later that this probably cut into her lunch hour. Charli epitomizes the true spirit of nursing with her professionalism, her caring, and her compassion.
