She helped calm me down and encouraged me to take a short walk - that she would watch our daughter at the desk.
I met Chelsea on our second night staying at the hospital. Our daughter was born 6 weeks early and we spent 6 days in the hospital as she progressed and was healthy enough to leave. Right after my birth my 1:1 nurse checked my fundus and pressed on my belly. My 1:1 nurse was fantastic! After that, no one checked me again. My night shift nurse and day shift nurse did not check my belly, fundus, or stitch site. So I had not been checked for 24 hours. On the second hospital night, Chelsea came in at shift change 7p.m. She immediately checked my belly and I felt so safe. I cannot put into words how comforting it was for her to check on me since I felt neglected by the prior nurses. My gratitude was overflowing!
Throughout that 2nd night, Chelsea would routinely come and check on me, my husband, and our daughter. She would also ask when we were due to wake up and feed again so she wouldn't disturb our sleep. Once again, that blew me away. She really cared about us and our stay at the hospital. that night we had to put our daughter on the bilirubin lights. When those lights and tiny goggles came out it terrified me. I was so sad and crying that our daughter had to be put on something that looks so 'sterile' when warm and snuggly in my arms. Chelsea took the time to reassure my husband and me. She comforted us through that.
Fast forward a few nights, and she was our nurse again. We had to stay 6 days at the hospital. Between the hormones, the extended stay in the hospital, or not knowing when our daughter would get discharged, but I had a breakdown. I was crying hysterically in our room. Chelsea heard me crying ad immediately came into the room to check on me. She helped calm me down and encouraged me to take a short walk - that she would watch our daughter at the desk. She helped me not feel guilty and encouraged me that a walk was important for my health. I will never forget her compassion and kindness.
