Chelsie sat with him for over 30 minutes, trying to get him more comfortable with him. She talked about Elmo and his animal blanket with him. She listened with him to the stories his mamaw was telling.
We had an extremely scary situation with my son. He had been sick and spiked an extremely high temperature, which caused him to become delirious. I took him to the ED to get checked out. The provider wanted an IV and blood work. He was dehydrated, so it was difficult to get an IV. He had already been stuck twice with no results. He was super upset and terrified to get stuck again. My son was not Chelsie’s patient, but she agreed to get the IV. He is on the autism spectrum, so he reacts to things differently than most and tends to shut down when he is upset. Chelsie sat with him for over 30 minutes, trying to get him more comfortable with him. She talked about Elmo and his animal blanket with him. She listened with him to the stories his mamaw was telling. She showed him the IV cath without the needle and let him play with it so he knew what was going to remain in his arm. She explained exactly what she was going to do in a way that he could understand. She was amazing! She eventually got the IV quickly, and it was so slick! She then sat with him a little longer to console him. After she was done, she popped in occasionally to check on him. She even stopped by before she left for the night to say goodbye, wish him luck, and tell him that she hoped he felt better soon. I cannot thank Chelsie enough for her care, compassion, and knowledge. God forbid we have another trip to the ED. But if we do, we will be requesting Chelsie to be our nurse.
