She advocated for us and got help to coordinate all his wires so I could finally hold him again. Cheryl was our guiding light in those first few nights.
Our baby was sent to the NICU at Children’s Hospital of Georgia, 2 and a half hours away from home on day one of life. We arrived shortly after he did, late at night, terrified and lost as to what to do. Cheryl helped ease our fears and made sure we knew our baby was in good hands so we could get the rest we needed. She made sure he had the things we brought from home with his name on them and updated his name sign so he wouldn't just be referred to as "baby boy." It was a small gesture, but it meant the world to us. On night two in the NICU, our baby had been on EEG for 24 hours, and I wanted so badly to hold him, as we had not been able to since shortly after his birth. She advocated for us and got help to coordinate all his wires so I could finally hold him again. Cheryl was our guiding light in those first few nights. She walked us through the darkest, most uncertain days we've ever experienced. She talked with us whenever possible, even though we came in early and stayed very late. She encouraged us to get rest and made sure we were as comfortable as possible. Our son will be a year old on soon. He is beautiful and healthy, wild and so smart. For that, I give all the credit to the nurses, physicians, and respiratory therapists at Children's.
