A parent nominated Chloe, stating: “Chloe was an advocate for my daughter Daisy while we were in the hospital. Unfortunately, we had experienced multiple IV starts and infiltrates. This resulted in my daughter feeling increasingly more traumatized about the procedure. After hearing that a previous IV start was successful under ultrasound guidance, Chloe advocated for this to again be used. Initially, it didn’t seem this would be possible. Throughout our experience, Chloe was very encouraging to my daughter Daisy and tried to distract her, during and after the IV attempts. The therapeutic communication and deep breathing exercises helped calm Daisy down in between the attempts. Whenever I voiced my concerns, Chloe was attentive and responsive. Chloe helped calm my daughter down and advocated for everything to be in place so that attempts to start the IV would run as smoothly as possible. In the end, we were told that the ultrasound-guided IV was possible, and the tech came and was able to place the IV successfully. The entire time, Chloe reassured Daisy and me that the charge nurse was aware of what was going on and the provider as well. Before all the challenges with the IV, from the very beginning, Chloe was very welcoming to us and made us feel very comfortable in such an uncertain situation. Being in the hospital with your child is not easy, and it’s scary because of the unknown. The way Chloe advocated for my daughter cannot go unrecognized. She made our experience a lot better than we could have asked for."
