Chrissy Dixon has worked at IU Health since January 2010. She was nominated by Shift Coordinator Holly Chambers based on Dixon's work with a terminally ill patient who was close to death. Chambers cited Dixon's outstanding patient advocacy as she worked through numerous challenges, including family concerns, interdisciplinary communication and pain management on the patient's behalf. Her efforts expedited palliative care measures for the patient in the last hours of life and helped ensure that out-of-town family members arrived in time to say important goodbyes.
Chrissy was also commended by an on-call hospice nurse, who noted her support of family and patient rights. In the end, Chrissy's efforts were recognized by the entire healthcare team as well as the family, who felt that the patient's best interests were served well by the extraordinary end-of-life care.
