We recently had a case scheduled as an assessment that turned into a case that needed treatment. The patient was very young, and the surgeons saw the opportunity to help this little one. However, the treatment needed to come from an outside department and luckily, they quickly obliged. All went well on the treatment end thanks to Christie's quick action. This case could have gone in another direction but her early recognition of the needs and anticipation of potential events is what helped keep the situation stable and free of any untoward outcomes. Christie helped to coordinate the care, though out of her comfort zone. She used skills and experience and translated them into helping this little one. This kind of care and work ethic is nothing new to her, but I think it is time she has gotten the recognition she deserves. Christie does not just do her job and daily tasks well, she is genuinely and passionately interested in all her patients as a whole individual and their needs. She looks in depth at their current health status and uses interventions not only appropriate but above and beyond baseline every day.
Christie also uses vacation time to do charity work in countries such as the Dominican Republic and Gaza. Her bravery to venture out and provides nursing care globally should be commended. The knowledge and experience she brings back with her makes her very adaptable to all situations and allows her to use her critical thinking skills. These are characteristics of a nurse that set a great example for our department and beyond.
Christie is a mother of 4 beautiful children and a wife to a loving husband. She balances a lot on her shoulders yet comes to work prepared, caring, a great role model and leader whether she knows it or not. Staff love to work with her, and she never seems to tire of training new staff.
