It is my great pleasure to nominate Emergency Room Nurse Chris Bath for the DAISY Award. I believe his extraordinary nursing skills were instrumental in saving my wife’s life.

It would be difficult to exaggerate the exigency of the situation. We came to the Emergency Room, and my wife waited while I registered her. In respiratory distress, P was called immediately to the Triage room and quickly taken to a room in the Emergency Room complex. Chris Bath began at once to assist P: moving with brisk efficiency, he not only administered the medication she required, but he established instantly a rapport with her. His calm, confident demeanor soothed and quieted her anxiety. He assured her that everything was under control and that she was going to be all right. I can hardly describe the impact of his compassionate care; he not only met her medical needs, he met her emotional requirements. And I use the word care advisedly. Chris made it clear that he cared about his patient.

At the same time, he was communicating to our daughter and me what measures he was taking, how the medical measures would work, and what might come next. Meanwhile, he anticipated his patient’s need for extra pillows or blankets or anything else that would make her more comfortable. We were in the Emergency Room for several hours, and even though Chris had other patients and responsibilities, he returned to P's room repeatedly to check on her and reassure all of us.

Needless to say, I will never forget Chris’s actions that day. Someday, when I sit on the porch across from God, I’ll tell Him about Chris Bath.
