At the time of this nomination, Cindy was the only person doing pheresis for Children's Mercy. She comes every day when we have kids who need it. She never complains, always has a smile on her face. She has given up Chief's tickets and not been able to go to events so she can come here and help our patients. She had 2 deaths of people in her family and still only missed one day. She is a tremendous asset to Children's Mercy.

Cindy has gone above and beyond to provide the best care for one of our patients in the PICU who has required daily pheresis. At the time, she was the only person available in the hospital to provide pheresis to our patient, so she worked over 10 days in a row just to ensure this patient received the care they desperately need. When Cindy knew of one day she couldn't be available, she trained a pheresis person from Community Blood Bank on how she did pheresis for this patient so that they could still receive excellent care on the one day she couldn't be here. Even with working so many days in a row, Cindy always has a positive attitude and is willing to help with anything needed while the patient is receiving treatment. Our patients and their families are incredibly fortunate to have someone like Cindy who goes above and beyond to make sure they receive the care they need!

Cindy is such an amazing nurse for the whole hospital. She worked a 12-day stretch to provide multiple patients in various units with the apheresis that the patients needed. She was even here until 2 am and back around 7:30 am to do it all over again with a smile on her face! She keeps patients and families in mind while completing these therapies. She utilizes any downtime, which isn't much, to educate the bedside nurses on the process of apheresis and educate herself to better therapies for patients. Cindy is a great resource! Her knowledge, care, and smile are appreciated!

Cindy is one of the best nurses I know. She is one of three nurses who works in the apheresis department and specializes in providing plasma exchange to our patients. I recently worked closely with Cindy to provide care to a patient who needed plasma exchange daily. At this particular time, Cindy was the only apheresis nurse available to provide the treatments, as the other two nurses were on leave. She came in every day, multiple days in a row, to provide treatment to this patient. The patient was very sick and required careful considerations during the apheresis treatment. Cindy is so well educated on the ins and outs of the apheresis machine and is so very diligent in the care she provides. She took time every day to discuss with the team what strategies would be best to use and she advocated for what she knew worked best for this particular patient. If a family member would ask about her machine, she took time to explain the process to them. She did this so well, explaining things in a way that the family understood and she never made them feel like their questions were an inconvenience for her. This family looked forward to seeing Cindy every day because they knew that Cindy was an expert on what their child needed. In addition to her expertise, Cindy just has an overall exceptional attitude. She worked every day for several days in a row to provide care for this patient. She came in on days she was not scheduled and even on the weekends, despite having other plans outside of work. Yet, she never once complained. Every time she came in to do the treatment, she had a smile on her face and was happy to be helping get this patient better. Cindy is truly a saint and has been a HUGE asset to our patients' care. She is a great team player and one of the hardest working people I know. We are very fortunate to have her as a team member at Children's Mercy!
