Claire's passion for patient safety is evident and makes her such an incredible asset for the PICU.
Claire became passionate about CRRT/ PRISMA due to a safety incident many years ago that could have been prevented. She took it upon herself to seek out education for PICU staff to increase safety awareness and grow our program. In her time being the PRISMA champion, the PICU team has grown in its autonomy, including priming our PRISMA machines as bedside nurses. Claire has been instrumental in that process, working with PICU physicians and nephrologists and taking additional classes to make herself an expert. Most recently, we have had several patients on PRISMA in the PICU, and Claire is always available around the clock to answer questions. During a particularly challenging night, Claire was available for questions a total of TEN TIMES with no complaints and was readily able to answer those questions and be a resource. Claire's passion for patient safety is evident and makes her such an incredible asset to the PICU.

During my daughter's recent open heart surgery, we were blessed to be cared for by Claire Colbert in the PICU. This was her second heart surgery in 5 years. Her previous experience was traumatic, leaving her anxious about having chest/mediastinal tubes removed. Claire was angelic. She planned for pain and anxiety management for tube removal, then helped create an atmosphere of tranquility by painting verbal imagery for her "on the beach in France" that she calmly and steadily created during the procedure. Claire helped create a complete one hundred-eighty degree turn around from our previous experience. Claire's dedication and compassion was clear and ever present during the entire time she cared for our daughter. We couldn't have been better cared for, and we are grateful that she was a part of our care team.
