Anyone who has spent any amount of time on the Mother-Baby Unit knows of Claire, or as she is affectionately known as "Claire Bear." Claire is one of the kindest and most compassionate humans you will ever meet, and it's impossible to have a conversation with her without a smile on your face. Time and time again she consistently displays the qualities of a true healer by being present in the moment, listening, and providing thoughtful care to those around her, be it her patients or colleagues.
As one of the senior nurses on the Mother-Baby Unit, Claire has a wealth of knowledge about her profession that is admirable and that she freely shares with those around her, especially to new nurses on the unit. If you ever have a question, Claire is always the best person to ask. More importantly, Claire's dedication to her calling as a nurse is apparent in everything she does. Clare is the special type of nurse who is able to connect with patients on a personal level and it is not uncommon to have patients specifically request to have her as their nurse again the following day. Her attentiveness to her patient's needs and her calm demeanor fosters a healing environment wherein the patient can rest assured that their needs will be addressed.
However, it's not just patients that love her; Claire is very much admired by her colleagues as well. Not only is Claire equally as kind and compassionate to her colleagues, but she goes out of her way to make everyone feel special. Claire keeps a calendar of every colleague's birthday and when that person's birthday arrives, Claire dedicates her time to organizing a small birthday celebration so that everyone can feel special on their birthday, even at work.
Claire has shown herself to be not only an amazingly dedicated and compassionate nurse but also an exemplary human being. In her 30+ years as a nurse, Claire has continuously embodied all that the DAISY Award stands for.
