On June 23, 2018, Culpeper Medical Center's first DAISY award recipient was presented to Claire Labrie, registered nurse in the Family Birth Center. The award presentation was held in the FBC waiting room and included Mindi Shifflett, CNO; Jeff Hetmanski, president; Jonathan D'Souza, CMO; Brandi Taylor, nursing director; and Nora Dearing, nurse manager. Claire was nominated by her colleague Penny DeAtley for her extraordinary care.
Mindi Shifflett, CNO wrote, "As nurses, we care for patients in many ways. Most nurses do not routinely talk about the caring and compassionate moments that make us proud to be a nurse. One afternoon in June, we had a nurse exhibit care and compassion beyond measure. Not only did she spend her day completing tasks of passing medications, documenting assessments, and educating on newborn care, Claire Labrie showed exactly what it is about to be a nurse. She focused on her patient and delivered a remarkable patient experience full of care and compassion. It is for this reason; Claire Labrie was nominated by her peers and selected by an interdisciplinary team to be Culpeper Medical Center's first DAISY award winner."
