We came in for sepsis, and while getting imaging done, the scans showed widespread bone metastases. Clancy showed great care and compassion in treating the sepsis and making sure that even before my dad realized it was pain that he was feeling, Clancy was able to see the signs, and communicated with him to provide the medication that quickly eased him and made him comfortable. Clancy answered all questions that my dad had regarding the newfound metastases with clear wording and compassion. My dad was scared and confused, Clancy acknowledged the fear and let him know it was okay to feel whatever he needed and to proceed however he needed to. My dad is very much a people person and hates to ask for help or “be a bother.” Clancy was already there taking care of any need before there was a need to ask; his personality and positivity made it less scary and more like receiving top-star care from a friend, not only for my dad but also for the family. He allowed my dad to be seen as a person who matters and not just another illness coming through the door. He let his voice be heard, his needs be met, his wishes be carried out, and his personality to be seen and valued. After we were released from the ICU, he came to visit the room we moved to, making my dad feel special and like he was important, seen, and cared for. He made sure we knew that if there was anything we needed, he was also there to help.

In all the health crises that we have experienced in various facilities, never have we experienced a nurse so personal and compassionate. My dad wanted to be sure that Clancy was noticed, honored, and rewarded for his excellent nursing care. He says that many people would look at him as an elderly person who doesn’t matter, and what a fantastic job Clancy did to make him feel the opposite! Clancy deserves a whole bucket of DASIES because ONE is not enough to show our gratitude.
