Clarence (Gene) Howard is a co-worker whom I watch very regularly interact with patients, families, and other co-workers. He consistently goes above and beyond his basic duties to ensure that patient needs are met with dignity and in a timely and safe manner. He engages patients, listening to their stories and trying to help them understand their plan of care, reason for admission and gives sound advice on ways to improve their stay and progress through the program to achieve discharge.
Gene keeps the charge nurse updated on patient changes, needs and questions. He helps the CNA/MHT provide patient care in all aspects. He also establishes a rapport with all providers to foster a trusting and nurturing environment of care.
I am impressed to see the composure and professionalism while dealing with complex medical and behavioral health populations.
Gene never raises a voice or becomes flustered with the repetitive behaviors, questions, and complaints of the patients. He ensures the safety of patients, staff, and visitors by mindfully observing patients' interactions and quickly de-escalating situations.
Gene is an asset to us as a company and as a nurse in general.
