Coegina Bellamy was working triage. One of her patients was a recently diagnosed diabetic. During the triage process he and his wife were expressing concern about this new diagnosis and admitted that they knew very little about it. She let them know that she had gestational diabetes with her last pregnancy and that she had a lot of educational material on the disease. She told them it was in her car and that when she had time she would go to her car and get the information and share it with them. In the meantime this patient was seen in the ED and ended up being admitted to the hospital. Not only did Coegina go to her car when time permitted, she retrived the information and then found where the patient was admitted and went to his room. There she went over a lot of the information with both the patient and his wife, educating them on the disease and how to care for himself... They were so appreciative of her efforts that they nominated her for this award.
