When the wife arrived to the floor Colleen comforted the wife and showed great compassion towards her, even getting her a chair, blanket, and water, coffee, and snacks.
In the short time that I have known and worked with Colleen I have witnessed the amazing nurse that she is. Colleen goes out of her way to make sure that not only her patient but the needs of all patients on the unit are being met. She supports her co-workers when they have questions or need help with patients. She is always a team player and wants what is best for everyone around her.
During a recent Code Blue with a Covid patient, Colleen entered the patient’s room and very calmly and professionally told the family on Zoom that the patient is coding and she going to hang up now. Upon the completion of the code, we were informed from the lobby that the patient’s wife was here. Colleen took extra time making sure that the patient was presentable for this wife to see him. When the wife arrived to the floor Colleen comforted the wife and showed great compassion towards her, even getting her a chair, blanket, and water, coffee, and snacks. Colleen continues to check on the wife over the next few hours while she sat outside the room. When she was ready to leave, Colleen walked her out of the hospital and even wiped down the belongings that the wife wanted at this time including his cell phone, wallet, and key.
Colleen went the extra mile in every way possible with this patient and his family. She showed that care does not end when the patient passes and that it also includes their loved ones. Colleen is someone who I look up to and am lucky enough to be able to work with and learn from. She sets not only a great example of an ICU nurse but also an employee of Atlantic Health.
