Working at the Cancer Center I know all of the nurses are phenomenal and always go above and beyond. There is one nurse, however, Colleen, showed so much passion while trying to help a patient we have all grown to care deeply for. He has unfortunatelyexhausted all conventional therapies. There are some studies to suggest a new treatment might show promise for his type of cancer. However, since it is not approved by the FDA the cost would not have been covered by his insurance and it would be cost prohibitive. She was on the phone multiple days, several hours, even late on a Friday night, trying to navigate multiple systems to acquire this treatment for the patient through compassionate use. She insisted they contact her while she was on vacation because she wanted to ensure he received the treatment. Because of her determination and compassion, we were able to obtain this treatment to provide one last option for a young patient. She was our rock star that day!
