Colleen had been working 5-6 nights a week, 12 hours shifts, while we only had 1 RN on nights. We should be staffed with 5 RN's on nights. This means she is working for 4 other nurses, most nights as the only RN. While she is working, she literally helps in every nursing department of the hospital and does so with a servant's heart. She does not need to be asked to go help, she takes the initiative to see what is going on in the other departments and she goes to them and asks, "What can I do to help?"
Collen's patients love her, and she takes excellent care of her patients. Being the only RN on a shift at all can be very disheartening, especially because when the positions are filled it takes approximately 4 months to get a nurse trained to be able to work independently in the department. She has stuck it out. Working all the extra shifts and is also training the new nurses who have been hired to the department. She shows excellent teamwork, initiative, and stewardship, as well as compassion towards her patients.
