My friend said if Connie had not intervened she would have died; the surgeon told her so.
I am a third party witnessing a nurse, a friend of a patient who works in the MLH system. Connie Burks was taking care of my friend; one visitor was allowed that was me. My friend was unusually upset after a kidney transplant. She started having cramping right-sided pain over the incision site. She became like a different person, almost angry; I knew something was going on. Connie kept her calm and for 4 hours called the MD, got the intern or fellow, and intervened before she was rushed back to surgery. Connie went above and beyond and I know she had other patients but she prayed, she was kind when we were not, she explained everything the MD was talking in big terms for. She was amazing. My friend said if Connie had not intervened she would have died; the surgeon told her so. Connie gave my friend hope.
