Connie was the very first nurse we interacted with and as we were settling into our labor room we talked and shared bits and pieces of our lives as she was preparing IVs and all the necessary items for E. She is a very skilled nurse, which we found out very quickly as she was able to insert E's IV with just one try! A process that usually took multiple sticks into my wife's arm due to small veins. And talking with Connie made both of us very at ease and peaceful as we began a journey into something completely new for us, but definitely not new for her. As labor progressed my wife's pain increased and at times where medicine wasn't helping, my wife asked me to see if Connie would come sit in the room because it made her feel better. A request that struck me very odd, but when asked, Connie agreed willingly and stayed for quite a while, as she stayed busy tracking and logging information in the computer, my wife's pain seemed to go away and she became strangely peaceful. I don't know specifically why it helped her but the sheer fact that her presence was there and it helped my wife feel better was great! And when Connie's shift was over we were sad to see her go, but she hoped that she would see us on her next shift which was Thursday I think. And again as we found out she was back and taking care of us we were very grateful that she brought her wisdom and care to my recovering wife, and our newborn baby!

...

When I met the OB RN, Connie, I was getting ready to have a non-stress test, which I had to have on a weekly basis due to gestational diabetes. She was the first RN that I encountered in the OB. She was very friendly, knowledgeable and kind. I had the opportunity to meet multiple RN's leading to the birth of my son, none made quite the impression that Connie did. The day that my husband and I came in to have our son, I hoped that Connie would be the RN to take care of me, as she had made the biggest impression on me and I felt comfortable with her. Thankfully, she was my labor nurse. Through a long laboring process, she held my hand, pushed her fist into my back during a contraction and was a calming, comforting presence. That afternoon, after a long morning, I asked her to call my doctor in, as I was ready to be done. Due to failure to progress, Dr. V got me set up in the OR. Connie followed me there and was the one to take care of my son after my c-section. The next day, we were lucky to have her as our RN again. My son was running a fever, that didn't come down. After it was decided that my son was to be transferred to Blank Children's Hospital, she was a comforting presence to me while we waited for the Blank transport team to arrive. She was the one who inserted my son's IV, which he kept throughout his stay at Blank.

There is not a day that goes by that I am not grateful to Connie for the care, kindness and compassion that she shared to us. She is a fantastic nurse and is so deserving of being recognized for that.
