Knowing he was advocating for my Dad gave me such peace of mind during a terrible situation.
It is difficult for me to describe the impact that Conner had on my Dad and me during his admission. I traveled from Washington on Christmas Eve to be with my Dad, as the hospitalist did not feel he had much chance for recovery. Throughout that day, Conner worked tirelessly to get my Dad the care and treatment that had not been addressed and managed by anyone else during his stay, to give him the best chance to fight for his life. He spent countless hours managing every aspect of his high care needs without complaint. His genuine empathy and compassion were obvious and never wavered. He listened to me and included me in the process both while I was there and after I had to return home. While I was there in the hospital, I was away from most of my support system, and Conner felt like a dock for me in a stormy sea. Knowing he was advocating for my Dad gave me such peace of mind during a terrible situation.
Not only did he provide exemplary patient care for my dad, he also managed to find the time and mental energy to provide me with emotional support, especially as it became clear that my Dad was not going to make it through. Conner supported me with words, hugs, and even helped facilitate a video call to see my Dad before he passed. He helped me through difficult decisions without making me feel pressured or judged. I had never been through a loss like this before in my life. I feel so blessed that this amazing healthcare provider was with us through this final journey. I suspect he even picked up extra shifts to be the one there with my Dad at the very end. I feel like I will forever have a connection to this amazing RN, and I wish him a long-lived and fulfilling career. I hope he will always feel proud of the positive impact he has on the world.
