She was compassionate and showed empathy to him. Everything she did, she talked him through it and was making him giggle.
My son started feeling sick at school on a Tuesday but refused to admit he was ill. The teacher called me because he was crying in class. When my son got home, he had a horrible headache and fever, I knew he needed to be seen. My daughter 4 days prior was diagnosed with influenza b, so I knew my son had it as well. My son is 8 years old and did not want to go be seen because he wanted to go to school on Valentine’s Day, which also was being celebrated as Grandparents Day at school, a day he’s looked forward to since last Grandparents Day. He cried the whole 45-minute drive to the clinic. When this nurse entered the room, she could obviously tell my son was very upset and still crying. I explained that he was really bummed because he had a big day at school tomorrow. She was hands down the BEST provider I have ever taken my kids to. She was compassionate and showed empathy to him. Everything she did, she talked him through it and was making him giggle. When checking his ears, she said she needed to look for ear monsters and that sometimes the old guys come in full of ear monsters, which brought a big smile to his face. He was finally so relaxed and started talking to her. She told him he wouldn’t even enjoy school because he was so miserable, but he could stay home and watch the Chiefs parade if Mom allowed it. At one point, they were planning to hang out watching the parade, and he would make snacks, and she would bring some fruit punch because it was red to match the Chiefs and Valentine’s Day. He thought that was hilarious! Afterwards she was giving me some good advice, things I hadn’t even thought of. She was so smart, patient, and caring, and even though there were quite a few patients there that evening, she never made us feel rushed. She has a big heart and her care meant so much to us. You can tell this is more than a job to her, she genuinely wants the patient to feel comfortable. When we walked out to our car, my son said, “that was kind of fun, that doctor was so nice mom!” And to me, that means so much!
