The compassion, advocacy, and empathy Courtney showed are unmatched by any other healthcare worker I met.
I am a resident who works both at SHANDS and Malcolm Randall VA. I had an injury in which I sustained thermal burns to all my fingertips, fingers, and palms of my hands. I sought out the Wound Team and knocked on their door with the intention of looking at the pictures to see if there was anything else to do to make sure they heal. Courtney answered the door and then I told her my story and tried to show her the pictures. She said, "Take off your bandages so I can see and I will change them." She could have easily turned me away or just looked at the pictures but she chose to take time out of her day and go the extra mile to treat me. She continued to do so over the coming weeks and truly changed my life. The compassion, advocacy, and empathy she showed are unmatched by any other healthcare worker I met. She did all of this when she didn't have to do a thing. She allowed me to continue leading my team and treat patients in the time of the Delta variant of COVID when the hospital was at maximum capacity. Essentially she treated me and allowed me to continue taking care of patients in this stressful time. I will always be in her debt and extremely thank you for her. I cannot think of anyone else who exemplifies this award. I recommend her without reservation and will always remember the kindness that she showed me when she didn't have to.
