Crystal was on duty when my brother-in-law arrived at his room on 3 West after being in the Emergency Department. She immediately picked up on his emotional anxiety; anxiety that would appear subtle to most people. However, by reading between the lines during their communication, she gracefully and gently managed to quell his concerns. This was critical, as it established his confidence and comfort level in his nurse.
She also immediately assessed his medical needs which required frequent attention. Crystal has the ability to be professional and compassionate, and she is an excellent listener who clearly made an effort to "connect" with her patient - a patient who was most uncomfortable physically, feeling fearful, anxious, and exhausted. She is graceful, thoughtful, efficient, and simply a hard worker who was really on top of her job and her patient's needs. Crystal stood apart as a nursing/health care professional who is clearly dedicated to her profession and her patients.
Sometimes we meet people in life and it is clear they are doing what they were meant to do. I believe Crystal Burke is an example of this.
