It is my privilege to nominate Crystal for the DAISY award. On Tuesday January 27th I was admitted with symptoms of preeclampsia. As if I hadn't experienced enough complications with my pregnancy already, this was just the icing on the cake. On Wednesday evening, the doctors decided that it would be best to induce me. At 34 weeks, the thought of being induces was obviously scary but I knew it needed to be done for the safety of my unborn son so on Wednesday night the 2 day process of induction began. When I woke up on Thursday morning, God had sent me a very special blessing and that was Crystal. While I truly appreciate the kindness of every nurse who cared for me over my 5 day stay, I can honestly say I would not have been able to get through everything I went through had it not been for Crystal. From the beginning she was extremely friendly and explained absolutely everything to me in detail. This was very important to me because I am usually very anxious and I also have an extremely low tolerance for pain. Crystal never made me feel like I was inconveniencing her by asking too many questions and she made me feel safe during the scariest and most exciting time in my life. My husband and I were so sad when she told us that she wasn't supposed to work the next day. Friday morning I was put on Pitocin to speed up labor. Around 7:30am it really kicked in and I was starting to feel every contraction. I was feeling pretty miserable when I was pleasantly surprised to see Crystal walk through my door. I immediately became more comfortable just knowing she would be there for me through everything that day. Not surprisingly, considering how this pregnancy had been going from the beginning, my blood pressure skyrocketed during the later part of labor and I was put on magnesium sulfate to keep from seizing. Needless to say, I had never been that sick in my entire life. At the moment, it became less about making me understand (I was to out of it to really get it) and more about helping to make my husband understand. I don't think he could have gotten through this part without Crystal. Finally our son was born and he was healthy! Crystal was the first one to hold him and I love that. I am truly grateful for everything Crystal did for me and my family while I was in the hospital. Had I had any other nurse, I don't think I would have gotten through everything as well as I did. I will always remember the kindness she showed to me and my husband. There really are no words to express the depth of our gratitude for the entire Henry Ford nursing staff but especially for Crystal. She is an amazing nurse, a wonderful person and now a very special friend to my family! With sincere gratitude and love.
