Crystal Fleischhacker is an outstanding nurse that consistently demonstrates excellent clinical skills and nursing judgement. She is extremely productive and a tremendous asset to our department. Crystal is one of the best!
One of our chemotherapy patients was a frail elderly woman who lived alone. One day she did not present for her appointment. Rather than simply assuming that she forgot about her appointment, Crystal called the law officer to perform a welfare check. The officer found no one home at the patient's residence, but did talk to a neighbor who said the patient had left in her car about 40 minutes prior. Still, not simply accepting that this was a missed appointment, Crystal set out to scan our clinic parking lots looking for this patient's car. She found the car with our patient slumped at the wheel; too weak to get herself into the clinic or to call for help. Crystal immediately came to her assistance.
It would have been very easy - and much less work - to assume this patient was simply old and forgetful. But with her determination and willingness to work hard, Crystal persevered. This is the same perseverance we witnessed as Crystal diligently worked to implement both McKesson and Epic EMR systems in our department. She patiently works with the doctors and other staff to teach us the best utilization of the EMR. In addition to performing quality, compassionate care to her patients, Crystal willingly updates policies, procedures, and order sets, and trains new staff.
