Her dedication, skills, care, and compassion are top notch and I would consider her a top-tier asset to IU Health.
On behalf of my brother and I, we would like to nominate and recognize Cynthia Baker BSN RN for the patience and care she provided to our father during his last hospital stay at IU West 3rd floor.
She would come into his room, and you could visibly see and hear in her voice that her priority and focus was specifically on him and his needs. While she would get her calls for other patients or other departments wanting to come in and complete their tasks, she was able to quickly and professionally answer her calls and defer the others to another time to help keep my Dad’s stress down, so he could still be in the loop of his care, as he was trying to keep up.
She protected and shielded him from the chaos that comes with being in the hospital. While his admission was for one of the most unpleasant reasons, you would never have known it from Cynthia. She was sensitive and comforting to his issue and provided Dad with a "no worries" attitude. I am so appreciative of the time she took to explain her tasks. From pointing
out each medication she was giving him and what for, to the IV antibiotics given and flushed, to dressing changes and why he needed to remain in his chair, or just why, who, and when anything was going to be done. She included him! Yes, he is old, and yes, he is grumpy but she treated him with the utmost respect. My family could finally ask him questions and he would
be able to tell us what was going on because she took the time to talk to him and give explanations.
This hospital admission is the first time I have ever felt that a family member did NOT have to be with him as much as possible to make sure he got what he needed and would not be forgotten or overlooked: to be his health advocate. We knew Cynthia was his advocate and we got to be just family.
You would never have known Cynthia had just completed her 1st year as an RN. Her dedication, skills, care, and compassion are top notch and I would consider her a top-tier asset to IU Health. We can not thank her enough and believe she truly did find her calling. All the best to her. IU West you found a gem.
