My husband was admitted with chest pain and very high heart enzymes. The cardiologist took him from the ER for a heart cath. I was already a nervous wreck and had expressed my concerns over and over to the staff because my husband has ITP. After the cath, he was brought to the 4th floor.
Cynthia came in to get him checked in and instantly saw a knot pop up the size of an egg. It was on the arm where the case was performed. She immediately dropped everything and looked at his arm. It was getting larger. She called in a second set of eyes to look at it. She called down and requested the cardiologist come check it out. One of the cath lab techs showed up to view it. I told Cynthia about my husband's ITP. She got back on the phone and insisted the doctor come look himself. The cardiologist came to the room.
Cynthia was not proactively made aware of this, yet she knew something was not right and she did not stop until she got the situation under control. It took her two hours to get us admitted to the floor because she was focused on his wellbeing first. I can't thank her enough. The world needs more nurses like her that are willing to address a dangerous issue even if it means stepping on some toes.
