Danny was my husband's nurse for 4 days. My husband had a GI bleed and an MI and multiple units of PRBCs. He had to go for an Endoscopy & colonoscopy. He was already having diarrhea with the GI bleed, and the colonoscopy prep added to that. Having assistance and a bathroom nearby was crucial to maintaining his dignity. Danny always had words of encouragement, offered his knowledge of the process, and consistently asked if not only my husband needed anything but if I needed anything as well. When it was time to move rooms from a step-down to a medical bed, we were concerned about the bathroom location in the new room. The new bed assignment was in a semiprivate room by the door. This meant that my husband would have to cross the room and another patient to use the bathroom. Danny listened to our concerns and made some calls trying to obtain either a private room or a semiprivate, but with the bed by the bathroom. Danny was able to secure a semiprivate that worked for my husband. It may seem like a minor inconvenience, but it was critical to maintain his dignity. Finally, after the room change, Danny kindly said to me that he appreciated me and my help in my husband's care. Often it is the small gestures that make all the difference.
