Dan excels daily. His IV skills are excellent, his humor puts a smile on everyone's face and his upbeat attitude provides comfort to staff and patients. Most recently, he had a patient who was scheduled for surgery. When the patient arrived, Dan noticed he had extensive swelling and bruising on his right hip. This patient was a paraplegic and was unable to feel pain at his hip level. Dan's outstanding assessment skills came in handy! He consulted with the doctor who then ordered an x-ray prior to this patient's surgery. The patient was found to have a fractured femur, unrelated to the surgery he was scheduled for on that day. The patient was admitted and his hip replacement was completed successfully the next day.
Another example of Dan's extraordinary care and everyday kindness was a day when a young child had surgery and was given a stuffed animal to calm her nerves. This child was crying about wanting a "unicorn instead of a kitty cat." Dan took some gauze and tape and created a "unicorn" out of a cat for this little girl. The smile on her face said it all! Recently, in Southern NH's Health News, "Simply Healthy" magazine, Dan was mentioned and praised by a patient's family for his extraordinary care in the pre-operative area where he was able to put their son at ease prior to his surgery. Dan is a true DAISY Nurse.
