I have been hospitalized for a suicide attempt and had to have 1:1 supervision. Nicole wasn’t like the rest of my sitters. The 12 hours we spent together was exactly what I needed in a time like this. She went above and beyond what was required of her to make sure that I was okay and had more than I needed. She treated me with kindness and respect. She treated me like a friend. She didn’t spend her shift reading or scrolling on her phone, she really spent time with me. My family is 4 hours away and aren’t able to visit me or bring me anything. Nicole spent her own money and bought me my favorite snacks. She braided my hair for me, and she sang songs for me. She shared her mental health struggles with me and made me feel less alone, encouraging me to just keep going. She didn’t hesitate to hug me and let me cry on her shoulder. The hospital is lucky to have her, and I was lucky to meet her. She really has made a difference in the life I thought I no longer wanted.
