I nominate Dario to receive a DAISY Award because he goes out of his way to help patients, even if they are not his own. Today, I got very overwhelmed and felt disappointed in myself and my lack of growth. When I first came to Lutheran General Hospital, I was a rude, nightmarish patient. Though hesitant over the years, Nurse Dario is never one to back down from a challenge. Because of the amount of support from Dario and the other nurses of 7 Tower, I have become stronger, wiser, and more compassionate towards healthcare workers. I learned the true value of generosity, kindness, and unwavering support through nurse Dario. His tenacity to take on the role of a nurse with serious dedication is no doubt a major contribution to a smooth workflow and environment, leading to better patient care. I got very overwhelmed, and despite having a million tasks to do, Nurse Dario offered to take a walk with me around the unit. Initially, I wanted to say no, but the trust in nurse-to-patient instilled in me led me to trust that he knew what was best for me at that moment, and he was absolutely right. Though it was just a simple stroll, it felt monumental. Nurse Dario listened with such empathy as I recounted some dark times in my life, he shared some of his own experiences along the way, reminding me that I am not alone and that even the brightest people have suffered their darkest days. Knowing that someone accomplished as you have faced similar hardships and emerged stronger and more confident than before, gives me hope that I someday will too. Nurse Dario's rare ability to make even the darkest days for patients in the hospital bearable has made a difference in my life as well as the lives of all of your other patients. Thank you for your dedication as a nurse. You have already touched the lives of thousands, and I have no doubt that you will touch the lives of millions. Nurse Dario's consistency in providing excellent patient care and efficient team leadership make him a true DAISY Nurse.
