Darlene is such an exceptional nurse and temp charge nurse. When I work with her, I know that she will ensure that guidelines are met on all care for all patients. She will page the doctor until things are done correctly. She has such compassion for our patients and takes time to care for them, even if her task list is large. When she is your nurse, you will feel cared for and important.
Darlene exhibits CORE values. She collaborates with all healthcare teams to ensure safety and quality for our patients including but not limited to: attendings, residents, social workers, dieticians, PT/OT, nurse managers, and case management.
Darlene is meticulous with her care for our patients and demonstrates the utmost compassion. She has a special love for our elderly population and ensures they are well taken care of.
Darlene is a mentor and teacher to all of our staff. She goes by policy and ensures others do as well and fosters learning in our unit in a way that shows leadership and dedication. Darlene demonstrates professionalism despite stressful events, such as MET calls, or violent patients.
One recent event in which I worked with Darlene made me want her to be recognized and I will discuss some of that situation. This past week I had a critical patient, along with 4 other patients. The patient had a change in condition and required an intermediate care bed. My charge nurse that day was Darlene Clark. She collaborated with me to care for the patient, she helped me page doctors and manage his care, She also took it upon herself to care for my other 4 patients (one in which was causing repeated loud outbursts) while I was busy ensuring our intermediate care patient was being well taken care of. Darlene kept asking me if I needed anything and would jump in to help me without having to be asked.
She is a team player and such an amazing patient advocate. I'm so thankful for her. She's become my mentor and I value her knowledge. I hope to be as good of a nurse as her one day. If anyone is a DAISY Nurse, it is Darlene Clark!
