My husband, E was a patient at UNMH for 42 days, most of these days spent in Adult Oncology. Unfortunately, E passed away. Since we were there for so many days and nights we got care from many wonderful staff on 5E. What a great group of Charge nurses, RNs, techs, etc. Among all these caring healthcare individuals, David Beet stands out. Not only as a nurse who provided medications to E, he tenderly bathed him and brushed his teeth. How good it feels to be clean! To a proud, helpless man lying in bed, he became E’s friend. It was very difficult and humiliating for E to soil himself, and David explained these are normal body functions, and he was there to help. David is extraordinarily compassionate and patient. At all times, he had a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye.

I cannot tell you what a difference it made to E when he found out David was assigned to care for him. David cares deeply for those in his care, always explains medications before administering them, and if something is confusing, he takes the time to explain until he is certain we understand completely. We witnessed firsthand his professionalism whenever he had a nurse trainee shadowing him. He is truly an asset to UNMH, and I am a better person having experienced his care for my husband. I highly recommend David Beet for the DAISY Award!
