David then brought the EVS team member to the desk, connected with our interpreter service via Vocera, and facilitated a conversation between this member and the medical records department.
David often reaches out to others to see what he can do for them, whether that is in his personal life where he serves as a mentor for teenage/young adults or at work where he serves as a resource for others looking to further their own personal or professional development. David regularly spends time chatting with the environmental service (EVS) team members on the unit, asking how they are doing or if he can do anything for them. A few have asked how to navigate different job roles or school options, but one recently asked for help seeking information related to the death of her child. The EVS team member only spoke Spanish and was having a difficult time getting information about her child's hospital stay from medical records. David phoned the medical records department asking if they had interpreters, and unfortunately, they did not. David then asked about medical release forms printed in Spanish so the EVS team member could understand the information contained on the form. Again, there were no resources available in Spanish. David then brought the EVS team member to the desk, connected with our interpreter service via Vocera, and facilitated a conversation between this member and the medical records department. The EVS team member was then able to have a conversation to obtain information she was hoping for and get the medical records she needed. David's compassion and generosity, not only for his patients but for anyone he encounters, is consistently recognized. I am nominating David for a DAISY Award and believe he is deserving of this award for the way he regularly goes above and beyond for others, especially as recognized in this situation.
