Dawn was nominated by a housewide clinical leader, two case managers, her unit manager, and a Critical Care nurse.

The Critical Care Unit (CCU) had a terminal patient whose care needs required her to remain in the CCU. The family wanted their loved one transferred to hospice for end-of-life care and did not want the passing to take place in the CCU. Dawn agreed to care for the patient on her med/surg floor until the transfer to hospice could take place. Dawn then made sure she had staff prepared to relieve her that evening and she came in the following day to care for the patient, even though it was her day off. The patient was soon transferred to hospice.

Dawn's efforts to ensure the family's wishes were honored, deeply touched many of her colleagues and left a lasting impression on all.
