Dawn Downing is an outstanding RN. She is very caring and a team player. On our unit we had a patient that has been hospitalized for almost a year. On one particular day Dawn was his RN. She took time out of her busy schedule to take the patient outside for some much needed sun and fresh air. That patient had not left his room since being admitted to the hospital. Taking in account that the patient does not speak English and Dawn does not speak Spanish, she was able to communicate with the patient via an app on her phone. In the process of taking the patient downstairs, Dawn brought him ice cream. When they returned back to the floor he asked me to translate a message for him. He wanted her to know that "today was one of the best days in my life." Dawn's kindness and generosity made a huge impact not only on me but also on the patient. Dawn puts compassion back into nursing. Dawn Downing is definitely a great candidate for the DAISY award.
