Dawn always goes above and beyond to help the patients at the Federico Pena Health Center. Yesterday, she assisted a blind patient who would have been in a bind without her help. The patient lives in a half-way home and had to be back by 1830. The patient was with the provider, and Dawn realized that the patient still needed to pick up scripts at the pharmacy prior to leaving the clinic. Dawn called the pharmacy and asked them to expedite the patient's medications. She also gave them her phone extension to call when the medications were ready.
The man would not have been able to walk up to the pharmacy window on his own or would have been able to see his name on the screen when the medications were ready. Dawn helped the patient get his medications and then called for a cab using a clinic voucher. She waited with the patient for forty minutes, and then called the cab company to explain the urgency and safety issues involved with getting this man home. The cab arrived a short while later, and the patient made it back to his half-way house on time. Dawn had many other things that she needed to work on, but she made this patient's safety her priority. The patient called Dawn today to thank her for helping him get his medications, and getting him home safely and on time.
