Debbie gave me a bit of hope that not all is lost.
Debbie was an absolute Angel during my postpartum journey. I had a very traumatic birth experience that resulted in me having uncontrolled panic attacks and PPA/PPD/PTSD. I can truthfully say that had it not been for her, and I would not have been able to make it through the early days after my daughter's birth. She listened to me, heard my cries, and waded with me through my grief. She helped find ways for my pain to be managed and my spirit not to be broken. She made a referral to a therapist for me and, as a believer, prayed for me and my family as we started our journey to healing. It still makes me teary thinking of how dear she was to us and how meaningful her presence was. I will forever be thankful that she was there to care for not only me but also our precious girl when I was unable to do so in those days.
As someone who has worked in healthcare for the past 12 years, this experience made me question if healthcare was still the right space for me. Debbie gave me a bit of hope that not all is lost. There are providers out there who aren't just looking for the next dollar but truly care for the physical and emotional well-being of their patients. If there were more Nurse Debbies in the world, we would all be in a better place. I am forever grateful.
