I am honored to have gotten the opportunity to meet such a wonderful soul. You know you have met a beautiful soul when the thought of that person makes you smile. I can't think of another person who is more deserving of this DAISY Award, because Deborah Geisler is just an amazing nurse. I am a first time mom and was not expecting my baby to be sick and spend so much time in the Special Care Nursery. Deb was very supportive and taught me so much. Because of her I was able to provide breast milk and feed my baby. She showed me tricks to handling, feeding baby and being a good mom as well as listening to me while I was an emotional and hormonal wreck.
Within a week of our stay in the nursery I learned so much from Deb. She genuinely cares, and you can feel it radiate through her. She is so easy to talk to and very friendly. When my husband would go to work he would call me and ask who is working the shift. I would tell him it's Nurse Deb and he would say "Great, she is a sweet nurse, and takes great care of the baby. I hope she's also his nurse tomorrow." I wished she would be his nurse the whole day. I would go to the front desk and ask for her to be the nurse for our baby. What I also liked about Nurse Deb is she is so easy to talk to. She's gone above and beyond what I expected a good nurse would be. I honestly mean it with all my heart that she in a matter of a week made me love her. I love her like I love my mother.
With other nurses I would ask so many questions and I felt like I annoyed them. With Nurse Deb it was different; she would take care of my needs before I would even ask. For example, she would let me know what's going on with baby, his test results, what the doctor said, and advice from her on being a mother to a newborn. I wish I could take her home with me, it's rather bitter sweet. I hope to get discharged within the next few days, but at the same time I don't want to leave. I know I will miss her and her wonderful care a lot.
