The nursing simulation lab here at PNW started as a blank slate but Deb, using her creativity and expertise, transformed the labs into an area where future nursing students of the Northwest Indiana area can flourish amongst the best of them.
Purdue Northwest University (PNW) couldn’t have gotten luckier when Deb became part of the team. As noted on The DAISY Foundation website, “The DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award was created to recognize those nurses who have devoted their life's work to the compassionate care of others. Recipients of this award are nominated for their dedication to nursing through active mentoring, role modeling, advocating for their patients, and promoting the positive image of nursing. They serve as a beacon of inspiration to those at all stages of their career and in the various and important roles of nursing”. This describes Deb 100%. She is kind, patient, innovative, incredibly organized, and so much more. Deb is certainly deserving of the DAISY Lifetime Achievement award as she embarks upon retirement. The nursing simulation lab here at PNW started as a blank slate but Deb, using her creativity and expertise, transformed the labs into an area where future nursing students of the Northwest Indiana area can flourish amongst the best of them. She has been instrumental in this success. Over the years, Deb has given so much to nursing practice, nursing education, patients, and students. She deserves this recognition not just for what she has done at PNW but also her years at Methodist. Deb has a special skill at bringing order to chaos. Deb has served as a role model to us all here at PNW. She has an amazing attention to detail, leaving nothing to chance and appropriately using past experiences to improve the future. She embraces all our faculty and students. Most of all, she has an incredible level of optimism and positivity. She has given endlessly to all with a never-wilting smile, with the ability to find the positive in every situation. PNW has truly been blessed to have Deb as part of the team for the many years that we have. As she retires, it is only befitting to honor her by granting her PNW’s very first DAISY Award.
