Debra Fraley is a dedicated Nurse, Clinical Nurse Specialist, and Educator who has served our system for more than 35 years. In the Emergency Department, she is more than our educator, she is an integral member of our Emergency Department Team. Yes, she ensures that the Skills Fair is completed, all educational material is distributed, new associates have a great orientation, and competencies are completed on time. She is also the Clinical Advancement Program Coordinator and sits on many committees. It is what she does in addition to this that makes her exceptional. Ms. Fraley rounds on our unit several times every day. She reaches out to every employee and asks how she can assist them or if they have any needs. She spends time engaging our staff - teaching, encouraging, assisting, - simply stated, she is present with them. Deb provides collegial, constructive feedback and positive reassurance.
Recently, our department has had a couple of days in which we were critically saturated. Without any hesitation, Deb asked if there was something more she could do to assist. Within minutes, she was in Med Resus and taking over a team of admitted ICU patients. This helped to free up the nurses assigned to the area to care for critical and unstable patients just being brought in.
Ms. Fraley is a champion of high-quality nursing practice. She supports evidence-based and best practices. She is an amazing educator. Even more, Deb is a selfless and compassionate advocate. She supports her staff and her department. She is resourceful and always willing to take on an extra task to lighten the load of someone else. To say she is an integral part of our department and organization would be an understatement. Debra is dedicated to educating our nursing staff and providing the highest quality care to our community. She is a leader and an advocacy champion. Deb, thank you for all you do, every day, to make a difference in the lives of our patients and peers. You are an integral part of our Emergency Department and our health system. You deserve this recognition although you are too humble to admit it. It is an honor to work with you!
