Deb took care of baby Elijah, as well as his Mommy and Daddy, several shifts. The care she provided was not just everyday care such as vital signs, bottle feeds, and diaper changes. The cares provided by Deb were extraordinary in that she demonstrated extreme compassion for this family as baby Elijah began his journey toward Heaven. Baby Elijah is a very special little boy and was leaving his Mommy and Daddy who loved him very much. Deb was not just their nurse, but also their shoulder to cry on. She spoke the words they needed to hear to calm their fears and ease their heartaches. She was the touch they needed when all you could do was open your arms and hug them. She was an advocate for Elijah and administered him the most comfortable cares. Deb displayed excellence when she lent an ear and said nothing to fill the awkward silence. His Mommy and Daddy trusted her cares and opinions, and appreciated her words of encouragement and honesty. Deb shared a special bond with this family. She was not afraid to show them her own tears through her own grieving process.

I'm proud to work with Deb; she's a true example of a Good Samaritan. She is an outstanding woman, nurse and role model for our nursing community. She deserves to be recognized for the difference she made in the last few days of little Elijah's life, as well as his parents.
